First University Cannabis Class In B.C., Canada
Kwantlen Polytechnic University in British Columbia, Canada is offering a class called “Introduction to Professional Management of Marijuana for Medical Purposes in Canada”. The first University class that teaches students to operate a marijuana business, from growing to selling and staying in line with Health Canada’s regulations.
This 14-week class is offered online by Tegan Adams, who is a business development manager at Experchem Laboratories Inc.
What the Marijuana Class Covers
- Plant production
- Legalities and regulations
- Marketing and sales
- Medical conditions and drug development
Tegan Adams recently spoke with CBC Radio, saying “You have a lot of people that are really good at growing marijuana who are used to black market and a lot of people that are investing in the marijuana industry are coming from different industries and there is a gap in the middle where Health Canada is regulating their production and neither of those two groups knows how to deal with it,”
The Future Of Marijuana In Canada
Presently there are a grand total of 25 federally licensed growing facilities in Canada. Of those 25, only 6 are located in British Columbia.
Offering students and cannabis enthusiasts a class to learn how to grow, sell and market marijuana is hugely important as we get closer to full legalization and medical acceptance. Many people already know how to grow marijuana though, what this class really offers is a way to learn the in’s and out’s of Health Canada’s requirements for marijuana businesses.
Assuming medical marijuana becomes more widely accepted in Canada, or recreational marijuana becomes legal, the demand for qualified individuals to grow, market and operate cannabis businesses will skyrocket.
The fact that a class like this is being offered by a legit University gives us hope that change is coming soon. It will no doubt be a popular class, churning out the future cannabis business leaders of our time.
We are excited to see how many other school’s offer a similar class in the next few years.
