If you’re a fan of puffing on cannabis concentrates on the go then you’re in for a treat! Source Vapes kindly sent us over one of their Source Orb 4 premium kits to check out, a futuristic vape pen that’s on the leading edge of vaporizing technology. Yes, the Source Orb 4 has a breathtaking design that conjures up thoughts of aliens and UFOs, but the real magic is in the atomizers that Source Vapes has developed.
Source Orb 4 Review
Considering everything you get for the price, the Source Orb 4 is an absolute bargain at $99.95. The price itself is pretty similar to most high quality concentrate vape pens on the market, but the fact that they include a whopping 6 atomizers makes the Source Orb 4 really stand out from the rest. In exchange for a powerful vape pen that offers thick vapor clouds, great taste, loads of customizability and a sexy design you’ll have to deal with the slightly above average size and weight of the Orb 4. A small price to pay considering how awesome this thing is!

The first thing you’ll notice about the Source Orb 4 is the unique top portion that screws onto the battery. Its teardrop shape and elegant mouthpiece are visually appealing, but the variable air system (VAS) is the real star. Quite simple in its design, it’s an amazing feature that couldn’t be easier to use and really allows users to customize their vaporizing experience. The VAS is just a series of 5 holes on either side of the vaporizer with a rotating cover. Rotate the cover to conceal the holes for a more concentrated vapor hit. Or reveal the holes to allow more cool air into the device, offering wispier, less concentrates hits.
To further customize your vaporizing experience you can dial in the precise voltage (temperature) using the dial at the bottom of the Source Orb 4 battery. The voltage options range from 2.7V – 4.2V.
Now let’s get into the real selling point of the Source Orb 4; the atomizers.
Source Orb 4 Atomizers
Quartz coil-less atomizer: The perfect atomizer for tasty low-temp concentrate rips. A quartz bucket screws securely into place over a ceramic donut style element. This means that your waxes / oils never come into direct contact with the heating element, giving the user wonderfully flavorful vapor pulls with little risk of burning the concentrates or ruining your coil.
Titanium coil-less atomizer: Same idea as the quartz coil-less atomizer, trading the quartz bucket for a titanium bucket. It’s also worth mentioning that the buckets in the coil-less atomizers are removable which makes them very simple to clean and maintain.
Black ceramic double coil atomizer: Here’s another unique atomizer that Source Vapes includes in the Source Orb 4 kit. The black ceramic rods are used to better absorb / vaporize runnier concentrates / oils. Not only are the black ceramic rods 50% larger than the white ceramic, they are more porous which offers improved performance when vaporizing liquidy concentrates.
White ceramic double coil atomizer: A classic atomizer with high quality grade 1 titanium coils. This is a great choice for waxy concentrates if you’re looking for robust vapor pulls.
Quartz single and double coil atomizers: We lumped these two atomizers together because… why not? Enjoy the same high quality titanium coils wrapped around 1 or 2 quartz rods.
The top portion secures to the battery base using 510 threading, as does the charging cable. While I have a strong affinity towards vaporizers that use magnets, the 510 threading is perfectly fine considering the top portion of the vaporizer that reveals the atomizer (for loading purposes) is secured using a pretty powerful magnet.
Usually the battery is the heaviest part of any vaporizer. The Source Orb 4 is actually the opposite, with the heaviest portion being the atomizer area made from stainless steel. This weight gives the vaporizer a great high quality / durable feel, but makes it a pain to stand up. It wouldn’t be a big issue if the vaporizer wasn’t so sleek and round. Setting the Source Orb 4 on its side will undoubtedly set it rolling around the table (unless it’s perfectly level…).
Performance wise I was thoroughly impressed with the Source Orb 4. It provides very clean, flavorful and consistent hauls from the very first time you pick it up. The single button operation makes it dead simple to use and the battery life was quite reasonable. As if you needed more convincing to pick yourself up a Source Orb 4, it comes with a no-hassle lifetime warranty.
Six atomizers says quite a bit… But when you consider the materials used, quality of the build and the unique designs on a few of them it really makes the Orb 4 a top contender.
The Source Orb 4 is simple to use and provides some of the best vapor hauls I’ve ever had from a concentrate pen. I’m also a big fan of the dial temperature control over clicking a button x-amount of times.
The Source Orb 4 married form and function to create one of the best looking high end vaporizer pens available.
The stainless steel top portion of the vaporizer is pretty heavy compared to the battery portion. This makes the Source Orb 4 top heavy and standing it up can be a precarious endeavor.
While the buckets in the coil-less atomizers are removeable and usually quite simple to remove using just your fingers, if it’s threaded tightly it can be tough. I’d like to see Source Vapes include a tool to easily remove the buckets. Most flat-head screwdrivers are too narrow for the task, I resorted to using a dime.
The threading used to secure the buckets to the atomizer base can get gunked up easily, making it very difficult to remove them in order to clean the bucket out.
The Source Orb 4 is presented as a high end vaporizer pen that uses the absolute best materials. Source Vapes prides themselves on their atomizers, and go above and beyond by including 6 of them in the box. I wasn’t totally sure what to expect, and I don’t consider myself a wax pen pro at this point, but I really could tell the difference. The vapor was smooth, tasted clean and the whole unit is really easy to operate.
Personally I love dialing in the low temperature rips with either of the bucket atomizers for extremely tasty vapor. If you’re ok with the size and weight of the pen, I’d suggest you pick one up.
