Alpaca-Herb-Grinder

‘Stoner engineering’ is a well known term across the globe. From homemade pipes and bongs to high-tech smoking gadgets, stoners are constantly coming up with ideas to make their smoke sessions even more enjoyable!

Chase, CEO and inventor of the Alpaca Grinder took some time to chat with us and discuss his new grinder design that packs your bowl for you. The goal is to change the way you prepare for a session, no more sticky fingers or time wasted opening and closing your grinder.

We asked Chase what the inspiration was for creating the Alpaca, much like the best stoner inventions we know and love, the idea for the Alpaca was born from necessity and a cloud of smoke.

I had a normal herb grinder for years. One day while watching a friend struggle with his grinder, I thought ‘There has got to be a better way.’ Inspired by the obvious need for a better grinder, I teamed up with an industrial engineer and together we developed Alpaca over two years. We wanted something easy and fast that removed all the hassle of old school grinders. Alpaca is the result.

The Alpaca Grinder

Starting at the top of the grinder, the Alpaca isn’t any different than the herb grinders you have come to know and love. As the herb falls through the grinding teeth, the Alpaca becomes something different entirely, something you have never seen before!

A dispensing screw found at the bottom of the grinder makes the Alpaca what it is. The ground up herb falls into the dispensing screw area, this makes packing a bowl or dispensing herb into a rolling paper effortless.

Our dispensing design makes grinding far easier, faster and more efficient. Unlike some grinder companies, we focus on premium materials. The Alpaca grinder is cut from a solid block of aircraft-grade aluminum, resulting in razor-sharp teeth. We then apply an anodized coating, greatly increasing durability. The cone housing is made from ultra-durable polycarbonate.” said Chase as he explained what makes the Alpaca different from other grinders on the market.

Chase and his team at Alpaca created over 50 prototypes of the Alpaca before finding their current design. They were constantly fine-tuning their creation in order to provide users with the ultimate grinding experience..

Blaze? Alpaca Bowl.

We haven’t had the chance to try out the Alpaca grinder yet, but we hope to test it thoroughly very soon.

One pitfall that some tokers may be upset with is the fact that this grinder doesn’t have a kief catcher. Totally understandable, it’s very nice having that rainy day fund passively building up as you burn through your stash. But bare with me for a minute while I defend the no kief catcher decision.

By omitting the kief catching chamber you are ensuring all the kief is landing in your bowl / wrap. You end up with more potent bowls, but don’t have a rainy day fund to fall back on when your stash dries up. On this same note, you don’t lose any kief to your finger tips when packing a bowl. No more sticky fingers, no more wasted kief!

Chase isn’t the only entrepreneur taking advantage of the cannabis boom in America, there are dozens of new products entering the market. Now that some of the stigma around cannabis is disappearing, people are more willing to explore the space and stake their claim.
